HOWARD MEISTER

1953 -
Born in New York City, Meister is a fifth generation furniture maker. Joining the SoHo gallery Art Et Industrie in 1980, he was one of five core members who reinvigorated the artist-designed furniture genre in the 1980s and 90s. His furniture has been featured in more than one hundred publications internationally and he has received many commissions both public and private. He was selected for the redesign of RollingStone Magazine's New York offices and his designs also appeared in Oliver Stone's film "Wall Street." He has been exhibited and collected by many museums and corporations; including The Art Museum at the Rhode Island School of Design, The American Craft Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Art Institute of Chicago. He has participated in exhibitions worldwide and received the Metropolitan Home Design 100 Award in 1990. Since 1997, he has worked primarily in digitally manipulated photographic images and books.
